Today I participated in the firstĀ Space Systems CommandĀ Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning (AI/ML) Space Reverse Industry Day, which took place on the beautifulĀ MicrosoftĀ Silicon Valley campus.
Here are some of the main insights of the day:
– In the realm of space security and countering emerging threats, AI has emerged as a truly disruptive technology, revolutionizing our way of life.
– The significance of AI/ML is undeniable, as it is poised to play a pivotal role in every space force mission. By harnessing the power of AI and fostering collaboration with industry partners, USSF can effectively protect the US and its allies from evolving challenges and ensure a secure and resilient space environment.
– China and Russia are advancing in space robotics, counter-space capabilities, and the deployment of weapons in orbit.
– Cyber warfare is looming large, with attribution becoming increasingly complex. The US adversaries are likely to employ cyber tools as their primary weapons in upcoming conflicts, making it crucial for us to develop robust AI-driven solutions.
– A paradigm shift in acquisition strategies is necessary to address these challenges. Shifting away from self-development and instead placing trust in the industry’s expertise.
Recent events inĀ Ukraine have demonstrated this approach’s value, as we have seen the industry’s ability to deliver innovative and reliable solutions.
This collaborative approach creates a win-win situation for both the industry and the government, fostering a thriving global space ecosystem in the face of current and emerging challenges. AI is already an essential component in it.
