What an engaging guest lecture we had in my undergraduate course, ‘Different Ways of Understanding Cyber Conflict: Cyber War, Intelligence Contest, or Strategic Competition?’.
Last week, we had a fascinating guest lecture titled “From the Cell Phone to the Cloud – Four Revolutions in Techno-Intelligence Collection,” which left me with a deep appreciation for the evolving nature of intelligence work in the digital age.
From the tactical tracking of mobile devices to the extensive strategic implications of cloud-based data aggregation, the lecture guided us through four pivotal technological shifts that have transformed how intelligence is gathered, analyzed, and acted upon.
Each revolution—cellular, online, sensor-based, and cloud—has expanded both the opportunities and ethical dilemmas faced by intelligence professionals.
🌐 Key takeaway: Intelligence collection today focuses less on isolated data points and more on connecting dots across systems, platforms, and behaviors—at scale and in real time.
This lecture thoroughly illustrated the intersection of cyber, intelligence, and technology in our ever-evolving digitized world.
Thank you, Dolev Kfir, for the sharp insights and compelling examples.
I look forward to more of these deep dives throughout the semester!
